2009 PESSYP results

Thank you to all schools for getting the PESSYP surveys in on time.  Early indications show an improvement across all areas for the partnership especially in curriculum time, intra and inter school competition.  Offical results will be released in October and all schools will recieve a breakdown of their pyramid and individual results in September.

Thank you for all of your hard work this year please work towards the 5 hour offer with the dedication and commitment that you have put in over the last year to provide more sport and physical activity for all young people.

Celebration Event

Last Thursday saw our most successful School Sport Partnership celebration event so far.  Over 140 people from schools and local partners attended the event to see a dance showcase from Campsmount School, Sir Tomas Warton, Castle Hills and.....Our 3 School Sport Partnership Young Ambassadors from McAuley, NDTC and Rossington co-ordinated most of the evening with running a Parkinson style interview with 3 sporting celebraties; Robbie Paul – Rugby League, Jon Jo Erwin – Boxing and Wayne Sables – dance.  Followed by an after dinner motivational speech by Robbie Paul.  Feedback from the event has been extremely positive and we hope that we can get more of you there next year for a even bigger and better event.

Gifted and Talented Camp

Following the success of last year’s camps the Flying High School Sport Partnership will again be holding a 2-day Multi-Skill Camp during the summer holidays hosted at Balby Carr Sports College. The camp will be one for all the primary and secondary schools that sit within the Flying High SSP. The camp will run between 30th July and 31st July 2009.

As last year, we will be using the set criteria developed nationally which supports identification of pupils who are physically literate in a wide range of sports-related skills including balance, coordination, agility, problem solving and leadership, rather than them being a successful sports player, therefore not just talented in one sport. (Please find attached criteria). The camp is designed to support and extend pupils who show potential therefore it is important that children are chosen only using the selection criteria provided. It may be likely that some pupils are also gifted in other areas of the curriculum and included in other G and T programmes; this should not exclude them from being able to be selected for the PE Summer Camp

Letters and Criteria have been sent directly to schools and emailed to SSCo’s. This is also attached to the newsletter. The closing date for nominations is Friday 3rd July 2009. Should you require any further information please contact Andy Lockwood at a.lockwood@theallsaints.net .

P2P Cricket

As part of the build up to the 2012 Paralympics the YST has launched the ‘Playground to Podium’ initiative. The aim is to develop disability sport, increase participation and improve pathways to enable athletes with a disability to compete at a national level and ultimately at the London 2012 Paralympics.

Through the work of School Sport Partnerships we aim to support and develop young people with a disability in South Yorkshire to excel in sport. A key element in this programme is local talent identification. We will be holding talent events in the above named sports encouraging athletes to participate in a range of activities. Following these events students will be signposted to relevant sporting clubs for further development opportunities. We will facilitate this process through training and guidance encouraging athletes to pursue coaching and competitive opportunities.

The last event of the year for Doncaster is a Playground to Podium Cricket Talent ID day. The event will be held at Doncaster Town Cricket Club on Monday 6th July 10-12pm. The event will consist of a skills circuit where all the stations are scored and measurable. This will provide the basis for Talent ID, those young people who attend the day who are identified as Talented will go forward to represent Doncaster at the South Yorkshire Talent ID event with the aim being that we create a county team.

The event is open to all young people who have a physical or sensory disability, we are trying to target those young people who attend mainstream schools. Attached is an information letter and registration form. Should you require further information please contact Andy Lockwood at a.lockwood@theallsaints.net

2012 Day Staff Update

On Thursday 2nd July Olympic Fever will hit Doncaster with its first Olympic Celebration Event. The festival of sport to be held at the Keepmoat Stadium has been organised by Doncaster’s very own Olympic Young Ambassadors and Doncaster’s School Sport Partnerships.  These young people from 3 Doncaster Secondary’s have sourced funding and arranged for over 500 primary school children to try something new.

Staff and School Packs have been forwarded to all SSCo’s and participating schools. This pack includes information about the day and the activities the school will take part in. As part of the programme schools will receive 30 t-shirts and a blank banner. We are encouraging schools to decorate the banners and shirts for the event.
