Doncaster Primary Physical Education Conference 2009-Playing Your Part in the Team

This year’s conference, organised by Doncaster’s School Sport Partnerships,takes place on Friday 20th March at the Dome. With over 70 delegates from primary schools from across Doncaster attending the theme is looking at how schools contribute to providing young people with the recommended 5 hours of Physical Education, School and Community based sport and physical activity (National Public Service Agreement 22).

 

The day kicks off with Keynote Speakers from the Youth Sport Trust and a Headteacher from BarughGreenPrimary School, Barnsley who from experience and examples from within his own school can demonstrate how Physical Education and School Sport can raise standards in schools and create a learning environment second to none.

 

The rest of the day will provide Headteachers, Teachers, Learning Support Assistants a range of high quality workshops led by experts on a range of topics from introducing a progressive, enjoyable Outdoor Activities programme, finding the crucial funds to develop even broader types of after school sport and physical activity clubs in schools,

 

Highlights of the conference will be a workshop run by Doncaster’s Young Sports Ambassadors, all secondary school students, who will be delivering a session for teachers on how the London 2012 Olympics and its legacy can motivate and inspire young people to become involved not only in sport but also in other areas of school life from citizenship to geography and maths.

 

A backdrop to the conference will be performances and displays from young people at DonValley and KirkSandallInfant School.

6 young male and female dancers from DonValley who are all studying GCSE dance will perform at lunchtime.

Whilst KirkSandallInfant School will demonstrate how they have introduced a virtual multiskills and athletics challenge to all their pupils.
