PESSYP Information 2009
The survey will continue to measure the total amount of time that young people spend on both curriculum PE and out of hours school sport, however to reflect the strategies high ambitions the question will now ask about the number of pupils who participate in three hours of high quality PE and out of hours school sport.
There will also be two extra questions, which aim to measure whether young people participate regularly in intra-school and inter- school sporting competitions. Regular high quality competition will make a substantial contribution to young people's take up of the 5 hour offer.
Finally to reflect the wider range of sports that schools are now providing for their pupils, four additional sports will be added to the list of activities that schools offer and have links to clubs with. These are: cheerleading; circus skills; trampolining and yoga.
