Young Ambassador wins Trip to Olympia
Young Sports Ambassador Becki Quigley , a student at The Mc Auley Catholic High School, has been selected from hundreds of ambassadors nationwide to be part of a group of eight who will go on a trip of a lifetime to
Greece in July.
Becki is one of the Doncaster Sports Ambassadors who are part of a national leadership project co-ordinated by the Flying High and the Get Active School Sports Partnerships and led by leadership officer Beth Whiteley.
Becki will be going to
Olympia on a four-day intensive trip centred on the “Power of the Games”. The group of eight Young Ambassadors will be accompanied by a member of staff from the British Olympic Foundation and the Youth Sport Trust. They will visit Athens and tour around the ancient 1896 Olympic Games stadium, the Parthenon, the
Temple of Zeus and the venue of the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. They will also get an
Olympia tour of the ancient site and VIP access to a conference taking place at the International Olympic Academy.
During the visit, the eight Young Ambassadors will be blogging about what their experience is like and also developing resources to be shared with other Young Ambassadors back in the UK. On return to the UK she will give three days of her time to attend events such as the Young Ambassador Conferences to share their experience with other young people.
Becki is currently Head Girl at McAuley where she has just taken her ‘A’ level exams and is hoping to take up a place at
NottinghamUniversity to study Geography in the autumn. Headteacher Mary Lawrence said she was delighted that Becki had been chosen as she is an incredible young woman and a superb role model both for youth involved in sport and the young people of Doncaster.
Becki along with the other Doncaster Ambassadors have been doing a fantastic job promoting sport amongst young people in Doncaster. On the 2nd of July they are organising a major ‘Mini Olympics’ for 500 primary school children to be held at the Keepmoat Stadium.
