On Friday 16th January Campsmount Technology College hosted the annual Indoor Primary Sports-hall Athletics Festival for the Campsmount Pyramid. The two Junior Schools Askern Spa and Norton Juniors entered 20 students each from Year 6 (10 girls and 10 boys) into the festival.

This was a very enjoyable and successful afternoon for both students and staff involved. The festival was split into two halves, whereby students participated in track events and field events. The track events consisted of individual and team performances of sprints, long distance and hurdle events and the field events consisted of various indoor throwing and jumping events.

The events were managed and judged by Sports-Leaders and Assistant Sports-Leaders from the newly established Campsmount Leadership Academy and the students showed a fantastic display of leadership and volunteering skills in the running of this.

The Festival finished up very close with Norton Juniors winning the Boys Competition and Askern Spa Juniors winning the Girls Competition. However, when the scores were combined Norton Juniors clinched the title and qualified to represent the Campsmount Pyramid in the Flying High Finals in February.

This was the first time Norton Juniors had won the festival and Helen Jenkins (Norton PLT) commented that it had been a fantastic achievement for students at the school. She also felt that the newly introduced Virtual Competitions had helped her select her squads and that this was a good idea to develop students’ skills and techniques just prior to the festival.

At the end of the festival students were issued with gold or silver medals and certificates and the winning school received a trophy, which was engraved with their winning school on. This was courtesy of Tracey Rice, from Extended Services.

Following this event on Friday 6th February, Norton Juniors went to represent the Campsmount Pyramid in the Flying High Finals at Rossington Sports College. They put on a fabulous display and just narrowly missed out on winning the competition and finished Runners Up.

Again, it was another fantastic display of excellent sporting abilities from Norton Juniors, what a fantastic achievement – Well Done!!!!!!
