Pyramid Football Festival

Girls Game in action
The Girls

After school on Thursday 8th October, saw the first of our Campsmount Pyramid Festivals this year between Askern Spa Juniors and Norton Juniors. This year as a Campsmount team we have decided to focus on Year 5 & 6 as a priority and run festivals in 5 priority sports. These being Football, High 5 Netball, Sports-hall Athletics, Kwik Cricket & Rounders.

It was decided that staff would work with their students to develop their skills in these chosen sports and then Campsmount would host a festival at the end of each block of work throughout the year. The winners of each festival would then represent the Campsmount Pyramid at the Doncaster Finals in each sport. As an extra bonus prize it was decided that whichever school won the most Pyramid festivals they would then represent the Campsmount Pyramid at the 2012 Olympic Celebration Day in July.

The first festival took place on a beautiful evening where it saw the girls and boys from each school play a friendly football fixture against each other to decide a winning school from our Pyramid. Both schools put on an excellent level of performance and the results came out with Askern Spa Juniors winning the girls competition and Norton Juniors winning the boys competition.  Scorers on the evening were Ewan Calam and Luke Hogg for Norton Juniors and Amelia Zivkavic, Edrea Dean & Georgia Stephenson for Askern Spa Juniors. This was a great start to our calendar of festivals for the year.

Following the success of Norton Junior School winning this Pyramid Competition they then went on to represent our Pyramid in the Doncaster Football Finals on Tuesday 20th October at Balby Carr Sports College. They managed to secure wins over Holy Family and Willow and gain a place in the final against Auckley and they put in a fantastic performance and managed to beat Auckley 3-0 in the final, therefore becoming winners of Doncaster 2009. This has now secured them a place in the South Yorkshire County Finals. What a fantastic achievement and well done to all students and staff at Norton Junior School.
