The Rossington All Saints Sports Day took place this week with approximately 100 students taking part over two afternoons. The students took part in a variety of modern day athletics events such as Javelin, 100m sprint and Long Jump. The event was organised as a house competitions for students from year 7, 8 and 9 and gave these participants the opportunity to take part in friendly competition amongst peers.

Talent:

Even though the Sports Day was for any young person interested in representing their form and not based on the more able performers, there was a lot of talent on show with some students excelling in their event. In the Year 7 competition Dylan Gray won two events, one of which was the Javelin which he threw a very impressive 17m. The Year 8’s most striking performer was Jake Shaw who set a fantastic time in the 600m and also won the Standing Triple Jump and helped his house to victory in the Relay. There were two standout performers in Year 9 with Danny Howe and Tom Ritchie dominating. Both lads won two events and set some fantastic times and distances whilst doing so. There were also a few other notable performances; Parks Houses Jenny Booth performed excellently in the three event she took part in. Teresa’s Sharni Wynn demonstrated great technique to finish second in the 100m. Please see other event winners and final results below:

Leadership Academy:

The Sports Day would not have been possible without the help of the Schools Leadership Academy. Twelve of the academy, some of which are taking time out of important revision time came down to assist with timing and scoring. This support was crucial and just adds to the growing reputation of these students, who have worked hard all year. They are great role models to their peers and are very much appreciated by the school.

Doncaster Athletics:

With the Doncaster Athletics Competition just around the corner (Monday 28th and Tuesday 29th June) the Sports Day was a great opportunity for the school to identify students who could potentially represent the school at this event. These young people will be receiving an invite over the coming days and without doubt will go on to make an impressive contribution.

Finally I would like to say huge congratulations to all the young people who took part, as there was a great atmosphere throughout the event and it was clear that everyone enjoyed the afternoon including staff and leaders.
