‘I’ve been waiting eight years for this!’ – that was the gleeful reaction of a jubilant Richard Henfield, PLT and team manager of Copley Junior School, as he congratulated his delighted runners after the winners’ presentations.
The occasion was the eighth Doncaster Primary Schools Cross Country Championships, organised as always, by Mr Keyworth, Hill House’s head of sport.
Thirteen schools, 211 runners, team managers, parents and many volunteer helpers made this a hugely successful meeting – and a colourful spectacle.
The three Hill House ‘hares’ led the four large fields of Y4 girls (55 runners), Y4 boys (56), Y6 girls (49) and Y6 boys (51).
The course - round the playing field, through the spinney, back round the field and to the finish - saw all runners cheered on by team mates and supporters.
With Year 4 races over, parents were invited to the hall for refreshments and runners to bangers and chips! And so we moved on to the Year 6 races.
