Date:       30.6.10

Time:      2:00-3:00

Pupils:    Y6 (160 pupils) and Y5 (10 pupils - Brooke display team)

Coaches:  TA 6th form and CSL pupils

Schools attending:    Marshland, King Edward, Green Top, Brooke.

Well, we didn’t manage Mr Dixey’s bid for the skipping world record, but following the very successful skipping workshop in January, we did manage our own Y6 skipping challenge.

Mr Dixey (TA’s healthy schools coordinator) organised the ‘big kids’ - 6th form helpers and Mrs Gardner (TA’s SSCo) organised the ‘little kids’ – all our local Y6 pupils plus Brooke’s Y5 skipping display team.

The activity hour jumped off with an energetic warm up. This was quickly followed by Brooke’s Y5 skipping team who wowed the audience with their coordinated steps, turns and manoeuvers. Skippers were then challenged to ‘have a go’…and they did, enthusiastically – tricks, pairs, long ropes and more tricks.

And so to the speed competition (how many skips in 30 seconds?)– all took part and the winners from each school were:

Brooke – Tyla-Jo and Louis

Green Top – Lucy and Liam

King Edward – Charlotte and Jack      Marshland – Tamika and Sam

Best Skippers overall – Tamika and Liam

Refreshments were served whilst Mr Dixey announced the results. All pupils received a certificate of attendance and the winners received £10 JJB vouchers

Huge thanks to Mr Dixey and his team of coaches, Mrs Taylor for driving the mini bus, all the energetic participants, teachers and parents.

And about that bid for the world record…there’s always next year…
