Green Top- Tag Rugby Champions
Thorne Green Top Year 6 tag rugby team started training in January for the Thorne Schools Tournament at Thornesians Rugby Club. The tournament took place in March with Green Top winning the trophy along with the chance to compete in the Doncaster Tag Ruby Finals at the KeepMoat stadium.
The team were unstoppable going on to win the South Yorkshire and then Yorkshire finals. On 8th July the team took part in the National Tag finals at Rugby School. The team did fantastically well to finish 3rd on their pitch which wasn’t quite enough to take them to Twickenham with only the top 2 teams going through- it does however mean that they are in the top 5 tag teams in the country.
The eventual finalists St Laurence School and Bourne Westfield School deserve their day at Twickenham but Green Top can be very proud of their achievements.
Huge thanks go to Rachel Campion and Stewart Cullen- Doncaster Knights Coaches, Mr Jackson- Green Top year 6 teacher and Mr Potts- Trinity Academy’s head of PE who kindly drove the mini bus down on the day and to all the supportive parents who travelled down but most importantly to the squad members who did fantastically well!!
