Doncaster is getting Girls Moving!

Girls at Outwood enjoying Health and Beauty with Nat Brown

A new project which targets disengaged 13-16 year old females is starting to prove a success.

After being piloted in two Doncaster Secondary Schools, the project which is called Girls Get Moving has really started to take off at Outwood Academy, Adwick. The project uses Health and Beauty classes as a reward to get girls taking part in more physical exercise. Also, Girls Get Moving aims to develop the girls self esteem & confidence through external agencies using the sessions to drop in and give the girls a motivational informal chat.

This project has been coordinated by Graeme Severn who works for the Doncaster School Sports Partnerships and Positive Futures and also the various School Sports Coordinators who work closely together to provide more opportunities for young people to take part in school sport.

The Girls Get Moving project will not just finish in schools though, as there will also be the opportunity for the girls that have taken part in the sessions in school to being given an invite to attend a community club that is going to be based at Doncaster Dome, starting at the end of April. If any Secondary School’s are interested in receiving this project in their schools then please get in touch with the Alternative Activities Officer Graeme Severn through the following details;
