Doncaster School Sport Partnerships to Benefit from New Physical Activity Equipment to tackle Obesity Levels
Doncasters School Sport Partnerships secured over £200,000 in funding from NHS Doncaster to provide a variety of new physical activity programmes harnessing the power of technology.
Dance Mats
All Secondary Schools have state of the art arcade-like dance mat systems which can be used for both curriculum and extra curricular activities, particularly targeting those young people currently the least active at each school. Each system is worth over £17,000 and comes with training for school staff on how to use the dance mat system and make direct links to where it can fulfil national curriculum learning outcomes.
As all schools across
Actipeds
The Actiped Project is using digital pedometers to record activity levels of students. This can be used as a motivational tool and also an easy way for schools to introduce informal intra school or interform competition.
Links to other areas of the curriculum have already been identified including maths and science as the Actipeds measure distance travelled, calories consumed, type of activity undertaken.
Each Secondary School will receive a set of 30 Actipeds and Receiver box to record all the data. There will also be an additional set of 30 per pyramid of schools to rotate around primary schools to set up similar projects.
Wii and Extreme Golf
Every secondary school will also receive a Nintendo Wii with Wii Fit and Tiger Woods Golf game along with a set of Extreme Golf kit to take the computer game into the real game of golf.
Again this equipment has been identified as a way to engage those young people who currently take part in little physical activity or sport throughout the week.
