The annual Celebration Evening for Doncaster's School Sports Partnerships was held on Thursday 24th June at the Keepmoat Stadium.

200 people from the Doncaster schools, the school sports partnerships and a bunch of VIPs enjoyed a fantastic night, hosted by the Doncaster Gold Young Ambassadors and special guest Nicola Minichiello.

Some groups of pupils were invited to showcase the skills acquired over the last year.  Things kicked off with a group of year 10 boys from Ridgewood School performing a contemporary dance, as previously seen at the Get Active Boys Dance Performance.  They were followed by a group of girls from Mexborough School performing a street dance to a mash up of songs.  Finally, the attendees enjoyed an amazing 3 rounds of point stop sparring, fought by a group of boys from Rossington All Saints.

For the first year in the history of the SSPs, trophies were given out for achievement in 4 categories: Innovation In Extra Curricular Sport, Commitment to Competition, Inspiring The Non-Engaged to Participate and Opportunity For Volunteering & Leadership.  Schools were asked to nominate themselves, or for SSCOs to highlight achievements within their pyramids.  An independent panel of four considered the nominations and selected winners for KS1/2 and KS3/4/5.  The winners were:

Innovation in extra curricular sport

(KS1/2) - Mexborough St John's Primary School

(KS3/4/5) - Mexborough School

Commitment to competition

(KS1/2) - Balby Pyramid Primaries

(KS3/4/5) - Balby Carr Sports College

Inspiring the non-engaged to participate

Stone Hill Special School

Opportunity for volunteering and leadership

(KS1/2) - Highfields Primary

(KS3/4/5) - Rossington All Saints

Presenting the awards to the winners was Nicola Minichiello, who also provided an excellent after-dinner speech.  A fantastic night was had by all - look out for information about 2011's Celebration and make sure you book your seats!!!
