On Thursday 2nd July Olympic Fever will hit Doncaster with its first Olympic Celebration Event. The festival of sport to be held at the Keepmoat Stadium has been organised by Doncaster’s very own Olympic Young Ambassadors and Doncaster’s School Sport Partnerships.  These young people from 3 Doncaster Secondary’s have sourced funding and arranged for over 500 primary school children to try something new.

The day will look and feel like an Olympic venue, with schools representing countries from around the world flying the flag at the opening ceremony and taking the Olympic oath. The young people will then go off to try sports including taekwondo, rock-it-ball and dance.

The event also falls into National School Sport Week which is looks to motivate pupils and fulfil objectives  for PE and school sport using the inspiration of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Sebastian Coe, Chair, London 2012 Organising Committee said: “Encouraging schools to hold Olympic-themed events is one of the ways in which we are hoping to reach arguably our most important audience the children of today who could be the potential architects and designers, builders and engineers, and of course athletes and coaches of tomorrow”.
