Craig Collins - Multi Skill Community Coach
Been coaching sport in Doncaster for 5 years, started coaching for a project called street sport for Active Doncaster. This was a project where we targeted young people that were at risk of anti social behaviour in high young crime areas of Doncaster. The project had two sessions a night one being skate and the other sport. Whilst working on the project I got the opportunity to work for the Flying High SSP as a multi skills coach, where I worked in the primary schools in the Hatfield and Armthorpe pyramid.
Whilst also coaching I’ve been actively involved in sport participating in Tae Kwon Do since the age of seven. I am currently a 4th degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and a 1st degree black belt in Kickboxing. I’m a former Tae Kwon Do point stop sparring world champion. As well as martial arts I am the manager of local open age women’s football team Doncaster Parkland Rovers WFC and have been for 4 seasons.
After working for Flying High SSP and Street sport I attended Leeds Metropolitan University to study full time. I recently graduated from a BA (Hons) Sport and Recreation Development course with a 2:1. After finishing me degree I had the chance to join the Flying High SSP and Doncaster Knights as a full time multi skills coach.
I’m looking forward to coaching again in Doncaster and hopefully I will bring some new and innovative ideas. Also using my expertise in martial arts will add something different to Flying High SSP.
James O'Neill - Community Sports Coach
Appointed new Community Sports Coach for Flying High Sports Partnership in October 2009 after graduating in July that same year from Leeds University, where I gained a 2:1 degree in Sports Science. For the past 6 years I have been coaching regularly, covering a broad spectrum of environments. This includes work for Goole Football in the Community as well as developing and implementing a community sports project in Leeds as part of the nPower Community Coaching scheme.
I am excited by the prospect of working as a coach within the partnership and eagerly anticipate the many achievements and successes that lay ahead. Moreover, I look forward to delivering a wide variety of active and enjoyable sessions to the young people of Doncaster.
Graeme Severn - Alternative Activities Officer
Graduated from Manchester Met in 2006 with Sport and Business Studies degree. Had coaching experience at NDTC/OUTWOOD whilst working their as a T.A from Sept 07 July 08, covered a couple of PE lessons. Coached the y7 footy team, set up and ran table tennis breakfast club and lawn tennis club, coached cricket, rounders and fitness as well as helping out at the sports summer school delivering multi sports. Started to coach a local junior football team o8/o9 season including getting a leadership academy student to assist me from N.D.T.C Martin Stirling continued to coach them this season and have become club welfare officer for the team. Worked in KS3 PRU Nexus Centre delivering PE lessons to students in a range of sports such as dodgeball, football, fitness, multi sports, badminton, mini tennis, kwik cricket and a bit of athletics. Co-ordinated some of the alternative activity provision by linking with external agencies such as Dearne Valley Leisure Centre, Keepmoat and Positive Futures.
Looking forward to working across the whole of Doncaster within secondary schools and developing the new and innovative alternative activities of rocket-it-ball and ultimate frisbee. I'm also interested to see how alternative sports can break down barriers between young people, communities and organisations. I'm looking forward to seeing the development of key skills in young people taking part in my activities and helping the develpment of the leaders in our academies through giving them more responsibilty through my role in the schools. And demonstrating how physical activities can have positive influences on young people's lives.
